Prof Serestina Viriri’s main research areas include Artificial Intelligence in general, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Medical Image Analysis, Pattern Recognition, and other Image Processing-related fields, such as biometrics, medical imaging, and nuclear medicine. His latest research focused on Medical Image Analysis addressing contemporary grand challenges such as brain tumour segmentation, pancreatic cancer survival prediction, automatic liver segmentation, dental caries detection and tuberculosis diagnosis, using novel effective Machine Learning techniques and algorithms. The research seeks to address the real-world challenges in the health sector. How can we revolutionize the health sector, especially disease diagnosis through innovative AI-based algorithms? Phenomenal cutting-edge results were achieved in the last few years from the novel Machine Learning algorithms implemented.
